Social Media Awareness
Are your followers worth your peace of mind?
Watch me as I discuss a relevant topic in February, which is “love” with my special guest, La’Toya Chambers.
Social media is a great place to get information, learn what’s going on in the world, promote your brand, and so much more. It can also be a space of negativity, anger, hurt, or people expressing their views of hatred. Therefore you must be careful of who you follow and who follows you.
What do I mean? Let’s break it down. If you’re on social media to stay connected to family and friends, this doesn’t necessarily pertain to you because you’re probably only connecting to people you know and trust. However, if you are using your social media platforms to build your brand, business or services, your following may grow beyond family and friends. When this happens, be mindful of who you connect to and pay attention to any negative vibes they may put out on your platform.
Are your followers liking, sharing or commenting on your posts? Are their comments positive or negative? Are they combative? Are they supportive? How followers react to your posts or on your platform really depends on what you allow. I’m here to spread positivity and I understand that this message may not resonate with everyone, and that’s okay. But for those who choose to use their platforms to promote positivity, read on.
You are in charge of what takes place on your social platforms. When you are promoting positivity you should also view it as having the responsibility to be a good example for others to follow. None of us are perfect, but remember this is your brand and your brand is you. Even if you don’t have a business…you are your brand. People may not like, share or comment, but trust me…they’re watching. You may be the only inspiration they see or the only posts you share that encourages them, so be mindful of the content you put out there. If you put out positive content it will attract those seeking positivity. If you put out negative content it will attract those seeking negativity. It’s like a wildfire that catches everything on fire that’s in its path. This can be a productive fire or destructive fire…that is up to you.
Please understand that by no means am I telling you not to gain followers. Having followers is a good thing, and can be lucrative too. I am asking you to step back and evaluate your followers and who you are following, then ask yourself are they worth your peace of mind. I hope the answer is yes and that you continue to gain supportive followers and spread positivity. However, if the answer is no, maybe it’s time to reevaluate what you’re allowing. Use your social media platforms responsibly.
